Our Story
Fidelis Miniature Cattle Company is a small family-owned cattle ranch just south of Kansas City. It is owned and operated by Josh and Vickie Adamson.

Josh grew up raising Angus cattle with his Grandfather in South West Missouri before Joining the Marine Corps in 1997. Josh spent 22 years on active duty in the Marine Corps Infantry, 11 years enlisted and 11 years as an officer. During his first enlistment he met his wife, Vickie. They were married in 2000 and moved to Camp Pendleton, CA. This turned out to be a life changing move that would shape Josh and Vickie’s priorities over the next 2 plus decades. When Josh went on his first deployment is when the world went into turmoil, Sept 11, 2001. From then until his final deployment in 2011 Josh completed 3 combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, to include the iconic battles of Fallujah, Iraq and Marjah, Afghanistan. During these deployments Josh, and many other Marines, were wounded. It was seeing firsthand the personal trauma, visual and non-visual, that comes with war that set the stage for the next chapter.

Josh and Vickie knew they wanted to give back but didn’t yet know how. Vickie earned her Master’s degree in Social Work with the goal of becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She wanted to focus on all things clinical but specialize in mental trauma, specifically Post-Traumatic Stress. After Josh returned from his final tour in Afghanistan in 2011 he was nominated to go on a wounded Veteran’s hunt at The Ranch Ministries in South Dakota. This short five-day trip had such a profound impact on Josh’s personal and spiritual life that to this day he continues to go back multiple times a year to assist in guiding and mentoring other Veterans.
Josh retired from the Marine Corps in 2017. He, Vickie and their two children eventually moved to Peculiar, Missouri. Josh always knew he wanted to get back into cattle like when he was a child but didn’t know how to start from scratch and he wanted to mean something. Josh found that first time farmer loans were next to impossible to get if you had not been part of farming recently. He had talked to numerous Veterans, and several showed a desire to get into farming for the peace and quiet, and yes hard work, that it offers.

In 2020 Josh had a vision to purchase land that he could start a cattle operation on that other Veterans could come to and learn, share ideas and sometimes just talk. Josh did not know the first thing about miniature cattle, but his wife Vickie planted the seed. After much research and consulting with what would become an invaluable mentor, Josh began to selectively buy his initial fold. Josh and Vickie wanted to do things the right way, so they only purchased cattle from the most reputable breeders in the country. The cattle that reside at Fidelis Miniature Cattle Company today came from four top quality breeders with the goal of impeccable conformation and amazing temperaments.

Josh and Vickie truly appreciate all that has been provided to them and the ability to be able to give back, both to veterans and the local community. It is always a wonderful site to see someone interact with the miniature cows and leave with a smile on their face.
